It was the last day of March and spring should have been in the air. But the weather had other ideas. A cold rain fell on a dreary afternoon as I motored to Ashtead in search of afternoon tea. It seemed more like January than the day before the start of April.
I purchased a ticket from the car park machine behind the Ashtead Peace Memorial Hall and wandered up the wet alleyway leading to the main shopping street. A dog in a parked car barked at me in a frenzied fashion as I passed the steamed up windows of the car.
Happily, as I turned the corner into The Street, I noticed Palmers Cafe-Deli, which looked warm and inviting on a wintry day.
It was quite late in the afternoon so I enquired what time the establishment was open until…
