TESSCO PROPOSE TO EXTEND THE RAISED CAR PARK

URGENT SAVE UPDATE

You may not be aware that Tesco have submitted ANOTHER application just before Christmas, as there has been minimal publicity about it. It is planning application MO/2009/1474, and you can see details at http://www.molevalley.gov.uk/swiftlg/apas/run/WPHAPPDETAIL.DisplayUrl?theApnID=MO/2009/1474

TESSCO PROPOSE TO EXTEND THE RAISED CAR PARK into the garden of 18 Woodfield Lane. This will provide an additional 9 net car parking spaces over the original application (13 spaces in the garden, but Tesco have, in an amendment submitted on the same day as this application, reduced the original number of spaces in the main car park by 4).

There is a risk that any objection you have already submitted on the grounds that the car park would be too small may now be seen by the council to have had that objection resolved. You may thus like to write an objection (however brief) to this new application to ensure that your views are still taken into account.

The Ashtead Residents Association has written a very thorough letter of objection. You might find it helpful to view the letter at:
http://saveashtead.co.uk/ashtead-residents-association-letter-of-representation/

SAVE’s MAIN OBJECTION’S ARE:

  1. The number of car parking spaces is still totally inadequate There will be 181 spaces; Tesco themselves say 145 are needed for the store, leaving only 36 for the village, including users of the Peace Memorial Hall.
  2. A larger car park would only increase traffic flows to and from the store, which the surrounding roads and junctions would not cope with.
  3. The raised car park will intrude upon further neighbouring properties.
  4. 56 trees would be felled. This is 2 MORE than in the first application!

You can email direct to the Planning Dept from this link:planning@molevalley.gov.uk

The official date to object by is Thursday 28th January 2010 but objections will be read up to Tuesday 2nd February 2010.
