“When Tescos took over the carpark that used to be for Weyhill shoppers, they promised to share it with other retailers, then threatened it was for store users only.”

This is a good but worrying point – have Tesco mentioned anything like this in relation to the Peace Memorial Hall car park?

Good luck with your attempt to stop Tescos coming to your village.
If you would like to see what happens if you fail, you only need to come to Weyhill in Haslemere Surrey. Before the supermarket arrived here there wasn’t an empty shop on the once busy street. Now, ten years later the hill is dead. Most of the shops are closed, closing or turned into food outlets. When Tescos took over the carpark that used to be for Weyhill shoppers, they promised to share it with other retailers, then threatened it was for store users only.
Tescos are ruthless and judge their level of success on how many compeditors (the highstreet shops) fold around them. Hope you succeed.

Dear Susan,

I have only just seen your message, thank you so much. This is very interesting and we would like to follow it up. We have just won but Tesco will appeal. We want to stop them taking over the car park – if we can their APPEAL will be useless. Please could you e mail me direct with your phone number if you would be willing to discuss your experience. It could really help our case in persuading the council not to lease the car park to Tesco. Also a good case study of the ruin of a High Street, which we would like to explore as an example

Best wishes and thank you again
