Residents have been asked to turn spy and take photos of lorries mounting the kerbs or spoiling the central reservation in Woodfield Lane as they try to park near Tesco Express in Ashtead.

A loading bay was constructed in the lane close to the shop in Craddocks Parade, Ashtead, but it is not big enough to take all lorries delivering to Tescos and the vehicles are turning grassed areas into muddy eyesores, Astead Residents Association says…

Residents have accused a supermarket giant of “holding a gun” to Ashtead’s head over its proposals to build a new store.

At an emergency meeting of Ashtead Residents’ Association on Monday, the group decided to oppose new plans for a Tesco supermarket in The Street.

Tesco had its first plans for a store rejected by Mole Valley District Council in March but has an appeal in “abeyance” as well as the new application – something which concerns the association’s chairman Paul Le Versha.

OBJECTORS are speaking out against revised plans for a superstore in Ashtead despite Tesco’s claims to have addressed their original concerns.

In March this year, the development control committee of Mole Valley District Council unanimously rejected plans for a 1,115sq-m store in The Street.

The council received almost 800 letters of objection, and a petition from campaign group Save Ashtead Village Environment (SAVE) containing 6,318 signatures was backed by local MP Chris Grayling…

Anger has erupted in Ashtead over Tesco’s fresh bid to bring a store to the village.

The supermarket giant submitted its revised plan on Tuesday to build a 1,499 square metre store with nine flats above in The Street.

This is 30 per cent smaller than the supermarket’s previous proposal, which was refused by Mole Valley District Council in March…

Objections are pouring in to council planners against a plan to bring a supermarket to Ashtead.
